Dachshunds are one of the most loving breeds in the whole canine kingdom, acknowledged for their curiosity, love of play and boundless energy. They are really mischievous and are also very capable in getting away with their crazy antics, in particular when they are young. Starting dachshund puppy training

When you are starting the training, arm yourself with a lot of persistence, consistency, firmness and especially, love. Keep in mind that your dog is an animal with totally different instincts as well as a distinctive way of evaluating things. Your dog has to be able to look at you and discover a pack leader. If he doesn’t, you can be sure that with the dachshund’s take-charge personality, he’ll attempt (and emerge) the dominant dog.

Exercising your dog

Dachshunds should be active to enable them to use up their extra energies and you can help them do this by simply taking them out for walks. Utilize a puppy leash to help keep them where they need to be. Should you prefer, use a harness or even a retractable leash to get much more control.

Potty training

Your puppy will really need to relieve himself about 6 times each day. After meals, bring your puppy outside to eliminate but bring him to the area where you want him to do it. If he does, provide him with lots of praise. If you keep your puppy inside a kennel crate, do the same in the morning and then allow him to play prior to his first meal. Repeat the elimination exercise and then place the puppy in the crate once more. Around an hour later, take him out to eliminate. He will learn with time that he needs to do his business when taken out.

Do not force your puppy to eliminate, though. In the event that he doesn’t simply take him back in, wait awhile then take him back again. Continue doing this approach until eventually he is housebroken. This method holds true even for newspaper training indoors.

Obedience Training

Train Your Puppy making use of short sessions of ten to fifteen minutes but do it often, say two to three times every day. Always reinforce good behavior using treats or praise and be firm regarding undesirable behavior.
