Three Easy Ways to get Dog Classes for Less by Tasha Stevenson
If you’ve recently added a new dog or Puppy to your household, you may want to consider attending dog classes. This is true no matter what age the new addition is. Many older dogs will need dog classes in order to adjust to their new home, while puppy need initial Obedience Training. However, Dog Training can be expensive and it is often time consuming. There are three easy ways to find dog training classes for less than you might think. Consider the following:
#1- Talk to Your Veterinarian
Make sure to ask your dog’s vet whom they recommend. Since there are no formal licensing requirements for dog trainers, you need to go on someone’s recommendation to get a good trainer. Not all trainers have the same experience or can provide the training to get the results you and your furry friend need. Most vets have at least one trainer they trust and will recommend. In addition, many vets have worked out a special deal for their clients when they use the trainer that was recommended.
#2- Check with the Human Society
Inadequate training is one of the most common reasons why dogs end up in shelters. The Human Society and other similar organizations recognize the need for affordable and effective dog classes. You can usually find several local trainers that have already received a “stamp of approval” from these organizations. This will ensure your dog receives a good start on their training.
#3- Check with the Local College
Many colleges today, even large universities, offer a wide range of classes for people who aren’t full-time students. These types of classes can include those for arts and crafts, basic computer skills, and dog classes. The fees are usually minimal and it will give your pet a chance to socialize with other pet owners and dogs. Community colleges usually offer the least expensive dog classes and some of these classes are even taught by veterinarians.
A Few Final Thoughts
Finding the right training class for your new pet is important. You don’t want a dog that jumps on company, barks incessantly, or chews up every pair of your favorite shoes. Learning effective commands will help in so many ways later on. It can even prevent you from getting rid of the dog.
If you are ready to add a new member to your family, consider checking into classes to see what is available before you bring the puppy or dog home. Best of luck with your new family member!
